PATHWAYS SCHOLARSHIP IN MINING ENGINEERING
This scholarship recognizes the academically talented high school students from Utah’s
rural school districts, including Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery,
Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier,
Uintah, Wasatch, and Wayne counties.
It is designed to encourage these outstanding students to pursue a bachelor’s degree
in the state’s only ABET-accredited Mining Engineering program, to graduate professionals
who will contribute significantly to Utah’s workforce.
Scholarship Award:
• $15,000 per year (fall and spring semesters) toward tuition and mandatory fees at
$7500/semester
• Up to 13,700 for your first-year housing (fall and spring semesters) if you live
in university HRE housing
Eligibility to apply:
The Pathways Scholarship is available to any first-time freshman, earning their first bachelor’s degree, Utah resident who
has graduated from a Utah public school in school districtsin the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane,
Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne
counties
and
Had an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.500 (on a 4-point scale) from a public high school in school districts in the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett,
Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan,
Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties at the time of application.
Eligibility to receive awarded funds:
• Declare major as Mining Engineering
• Follow the program of study for the duration of the scholarship. See the program

• Attend as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours)
Renewable:
No, the scholarship applies to only fall and spring semesters of the first year (no breaks).
Defer Acceptance:
No, students who apply must be attending the fall of the consecutive year and attend the University in a fall-spring sequence. Applies to fall and spring semesters only of the first year.
Restrictions:
• See eligibility to apply
• Must confirm intent to enroll by May 1 before the start of the fall semester of
attending.
• If the intent to enroll is not completed by May 1 the scholarship will be canceled
and other applicants will be considered.
